Breffesst

remember the smoke in the morning?

cigarettes and kerosene carriers

diesel gennies and those little Toyotas

heavy steam of eggs and bacon

still and accented by our dying coughs

made better with the warm scent of coffee

the feeling of heat reaching your bones

every call was a heart-dropper

until our hearts just stayed on the floor

God has a plan the way a city has a plan

it’s a pretty good predictor of terror

I smell smoke again, Babies

if it is so

I shall get the coffee on
